Our Afyon Spa Hotels Project has been selected at the World Architecture Festival in the categories: Future Projects – Commercial Mixed-Use and Leisure-led Development - July 13, 2026
AN INTEGRATED DESTINATION FOR WELLNESS, HOSPITALITY AND PUBLIC LIFE
Located in Afyonkarahisar, Turkey the project has been designed as a multi-layered mixed-use complex consisting of two interconnected spa hotels that go beyond the conventional accommodation program. Throughout the design development process, the aim was not merely to create a hotel building, but to establish an integrated living and experience destination enriched by public and semi-public spaces that bring together diverse user scenarios.
The 450-room complex includes a SPA Centre accompanied by a sculptural open courtyard, a Congress Centre, an open-air Marble Pavilion, autonomous Courtyard Villas, a Healthcare Clinic, a Children’s Museum, à La Carte Restaurants and a Commercial area and a Garden Playgrond. The coexistence of these diverse functions transforms the project into a vibrant focal point that remains active throughout different times of the day.
The conceptual design is structured around three primary design ideas: Integrated Green Roof Strategy, Inward-Oriented Courtyard Spaces and Sculptural Stone Mass and Façade Identity

1. Integrated Green Roof Strategy
Conceived as a strong topographical element, the expansive green roof unifies the various functions beneath a continuous landscape surface. This green layer is not merely an upper shell concealing the supporting functions; it is also designed as an active public surface offering uninterrupted walking routes, recreational areas and immersive landscape experiences. In this way, the sculptural hotel room blocks emerge as the project’s primary visual focus and architectural protagonist.

2. Inward-Oriented Courtyard Spaces
The spa areas, restaurants, clinic units and villas are designed with a controlled relationship to the exterior while drawing natural light and landscape into their interiors through inward-facing courtyards. This spatial approach provides a sense of privacy while simultaneously establishing a continuous visual and physical connection with nature. The courtyards are conceived as key spatial elements that reinforce the project’s calm, protected and meditative atmosphere.

3. Sculptural Stone Mass and Façade Identity
The anthracite-colored marble used in the façade design gives the project a monolithic and sculptural identity. Resembling a carved stone mass, this powerful architectural expression combines with the building’s form to create a striking and recognizable silhouette within the region. The chosen material language not only references Afyonkarahisar’s rich natural stone heritage but also creates a memorable and visually distinctive perception for its users.
